Tuku 27 Event Host Support

If you are thinking of running your own event as part of Tuku 27 in Autumn 2027, here are some areas of support we can offer:

Talk your idea through with Festival Director Tom Ransom.
Email tom.ransom@ncc.govt.nz or call him on 0220110722 for a chat. Tom can help guide you and advise if you ideas fits the kaupapa of Tuku 27.

Consider making a submission/grant application to support your event.
Each year NCC adds dozens of free “event host” listings to the Tuku programme. It also funds around $30,000 of small grants to event hosts who run their own events during the festival. Grants can be just a few hundred dollars up to a few thousand depending on the scale/impact of the event. Specific funds are set aside to support kaupapa Māori events but applications from all cultures and heritage stories are encouraged. More details on how to apply for funding and make a submission to run a Tuku 27 event will be updated on this website shortly - watch this space.

All Tuku 27 Event Hosts are responsible for risk assessment for their events. Here is some advice on that here.

Please send copies of any Risk assessment to Nelson City Council (tom.ransom@ncc.govt.nz) for their files.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Nelson City Council spends over $25,000 promoting the festival. That activity is in the form of adverts in newspapers, social media and printed collateral such as posters and notice boards. We also distribute 6000 printed Tuku 26 programmes ate distributed at Libraries, Heritage Facilities, and local cafes. Most of the adverts promote the whole festival rather than individual events and drive visits to the Tuku 26 website to see the latest event listings. In this way the marketing spend is maximized for all events. Event hosts are encouraged to also carry out their own individual event marketing. When you promote your event its impact is multiplied if you use the Tuku logos and style guide at the bottom of this page. Here is some advice of marketing.
